My company has products such as water pumps, blowers, compressors, etc. that would utilize this measurement type. For instance, water pumps would show their max gallons per minute (GPM) rating. Blowers / compressors would show their max cubic feet per minute (CFM) rating.
I do realize that volume flow is dependent upon the orifice size and can vary based on temperature and pressure conditions. This should not be an issue, because we assume all of those values remain constant when converting between units.
The main problem I see is that there are a lot of different units available since the measurement type is a function of time. For each unit, you could have variations in minutes, seconds, hours, etc.
