The way that the original issue was worded makes this sound more like a support request than a feature request. But either way we will need additional information in order to provide feedback or make changes.
@David Radcliffe if you happen to still be monitoring this issue and remember what the original problem was, could you please expand upon your request? In what way should the number of items be limited? Do you want to expire old items after a certain number of newer items have been downloaded? Do you want to limit the number of items that are being displayed by the feed pages or blocks? FYI, that can be accomplished by using the Views module to display items instead of this module's defaults.
