I'm trying to understand the case where this can be useful. Why a cookie is not enough for your case?
I need for my project to keep the active style for authenticated users. Thus, when a user logs in, the active style will switch back to the style last selected by the user.
If the user explicitly selects a style before log in, it will have preference over the stored in user data.
Store in the user data the active style when it changes and restore it if there is no active style when the user logs in.
Implement such feature.
