Option to display direct children as well as all ancestors

Thank you for a very nice module.

I would like an option to display the current term's direct children as well as all its ancestors, as in the default state of the Taxonomy menu module β†’ .

On my example below, Hierarchical Taxonomy Menu is at the top and Taxonomy menu is at the bottom. On my Chaetodontidae term's page I would like to be able to see those 3 direct children. I realise there is an option to show direct children, but that also hides the ancestors.

P.S. Expanding this idea a bit, for ultimate customizability, I wonder if these type of options could be displayed as a list of on/off checkboxes, perhaps with the ability to specify the number of levels of ancestors and the number of levels of descendents to display. For example in my potentially huge vocabularies I would quite like to dynamically display perhaps 3 levels of ancestors, 2 levels of children, and siblings without their children. Thus (where "X" is a configurable number):

Display:

  • Ancestors: All / X Levels / No
  • This Term: Yes / No
  • Descendents: All / X Levels / No
  • Siblings: Yes / No
  • Siblings' Descendents: All / X Levels / No
