Do we have an update on the status of this component of the style guide?

The approach both here and with Simple Styleguide → seems to be that an administrator enters in the hex code for the colors— is that the case?
I would expect a styleguide to get colors from class names. (It's more manual setup but the example for Style Guide (Admin) → takes that approach.)
In particular with CSS variables a styleguide that helps people (not only theme developers) see the effects of their changes is what i was looking for. (Sorry, asking all this because i did not use Styleguide Color Palette in Drupal 7.)
