D7 port seems unlikely, but has anyone tried a partial port?

I need the functionality of updating solr-config file with a handy Drupal UI tools instead of the config file/server side.
This module seems to achieve that, but it's D8 only, and this project is on D7.

I've looked at the code, and it seems that pretty much everything is D8 specific, and porting would be rather complex, even with some minimal features, such as editing "synonyms.txt" file directly in Drupal UI, and overriding the file.

Has anyone else tried to get this functionality working on D7?
