add conditional field based on who the registration is for

just curious how would you use the registration select menu as a trigger for another field - if it's for someone not in the system there are several fields i would want to ask, vs profile fields that are already in the system for known users. i've tried conditional fields, however that doesn't seem to see the "who is this registration for" field
