But for some reason it does not grab my coordinates from this module, the map stays empty when creating a view.

I created a MR based on the 10.2.x branch. It adds support for Geolocation fields in Formatter + Views. The views integration is a bit hacky, because there is no easy way to identify the field type. But for someone, that needs a workaround, it should be sufficient.
