View not filtered by visitors location

Hi

I can't get my view - map or other display - to filter by 'me'/current visitor's location. the browser can find my current location as when the view has nothing to display the map focuses to my current location as set in the settings. If i type a location (10km from Munich for example), then map and list filter correctly and the distances are correct. If i use the default options '10km from me' on exposed filter then I get everything with a distance of 0.00km. I get the browser prompt 'share location' which is obviously used for when the view contains nothing but using 'me' is redundant. I am not using GEOIP or anything like that and not using Leaflet on the view. I have tried with leaflet but its the same problem.
