How to create a list of uploaded files with a start and end time ....

First thank you for all of your fast and hard work on date! I really appreciate the time.
I have look for something like this =, but perhaps I missed it.
I would like to create a view (as a block) based on a file upload that uses date as a duration marker.
So far I have created a new content type, say PDF and allowed attachments to that type, and added a date field to that type.
But when I go into views to use the date field as an argument, as a field, or as a filter, it doesn't give me the option.

Did I not do something correctly? am I looking at using this module the wrong way?

Basically I wanted a block that would list uploaded PDF's for a specific time frame, say a week. But I wanted to be able to upload them ahead of time, for example it is may, and I want to upload a PDF to be displayed curing the first week of August. So I can't base it on the 'upload: date' I can't figure out how to do this. Has someone else done this, is this even possible? If I create a node filetype the options are there, but the link is to the node and not directly to the PDF.
