Navigating within Drupal

I am finding strange behavior when I try to navigate from one page to another. Let's say that I am on a page somewhere within my site (call it www.mymodule.com/my_page/param1/param2), and that on this page there is a link to my home page [I set this link up with a 'front' tag]. When I click on this link, I DO get back to my front page. However, the URI continues to show www.mymodule.com/my_page/param1/param2, I have TWO vertical sliders on the right side of my view port, and if I click refresh I go back to www.mymodule.com/my_page/param1/param2.

Is there a way to get cleanly back to my front page without the residual URI and the multiple sliders??
