I have the internationalization module, and the variable translation module enabled. I followed the instructions for variable translation in:

and I went to the "Read more" configuration table, where I now get tabs for the three languages that I have in my site. I translate the "read more" text in the read more link, but it does not have any effect on the text rendered for the different languages.
Expected behaviour: when I switch language the text of the read more link should be translated to the chosen language.
What I see: The last saved language in the Read more configuration page is the one shown. For instance if I have French, Spanish and English, and I translate all three, if English was the last translation before saving the configuration, the read more link will be in English.
