This module does not currently support non-taxable products for Avatax Basic users. Pro users get this functionality with the much finer grained tax code taxonomy, but there are instances where Basic users might want to classify a product as non-taxable as well. In my case, I need to sell a small volume of a particular product that is not considered taxable and the additional cost of a Pro account isn't warranted.
According to Avatax support, the proper way to do this is to set the tax code to 'NT' for such products. For basic users the tax code should be left blank for all other products (and is presumed to be P0000000).
