Multisite with HTTPS

I recently added a second Drupal site to an existing code base to create a Drupal multisite. Two separate databases running from same sites/all/modules. Site 1 remains at sites/default while site 2 is running from sites/site2.com.

I intend to migrate site 1 to sites/site1.com but have not done so yet.

Everything seems to be running normally except the google cse module for the new site2.com. I setup a new google.com/cse search engine and inserted the supplied search engine ID into the site2.com/admin/config/search/settings for the google cse settings.

I setup the search engine in a block and at site2.com/search/google. When I conduct a search for any keyword using either, no results are shown. When I test the custom search engine at google.com/cse it works fine, returning various results from site2.com.

site1.com continues to work normally with google cse.

Any ideas what is happening? Each site has its own settings.php file. Not sure if this link is relevant:
