With the imminent EOL of Drupal 7 I am closing issues that no longer apply to recent versions. This has been fixed since 8.x-1.0.
If I replace a document with a newer version, how do I get the thumbnail image to update? I tried editing/resaving the associated node, and have cleared caches, etc.
