Restore fails with not warnings or error messages

Since I upgraded to 7.x.-2.7 restore fails to work. Initially the restore indicates progress (at the bottom of the screen) but then it ends and I get no errors or warnings on the screen. On the server log I can see this: "Premature end of script headers: index.php, referer: http://mydomain.com/admin/config/system/backup_migrate/restore".

I tried this several times and also in more than one site using normal backup as well as compressed backups and it makes no difference. I am also not backing up cache or watchdog.

Any ideas as to what I can do? I rely on this module to move between my local and server environment and right now I'm DOA.
