Add a view field handler that list a term with all its parents

This module is exactly what I've been looking for to make a nice lightweight term hierarchy... but unfortunately the formatter is only available on term-reference fields. It would be great if it were possible to supply the formatter to taxononmy term names, so that term pages or views that return terms would be able to use this formatter.

I've looked into this for a couple of hours but since I'm relatively new at module development, I can't figure out how to hook the formatter in.
