Now supported by Smart Date's formatter

As an FYI, I'm the maintainer of the Smart Date module. I recently heard about Publication Date for the first time, and I quite like this module!

Smart Date uses timestamps internally, so I thought it would be helpful to have Smart Date's formatter support timestamp fields and Publication Date fields, as detailed in #3212212: Have formatter support timestamp fields → .

The added support is probably most useful for sites that already use both modules (so it's easier to keep the date formatting consistent) but the Smart Date formatter does also add an HTML5 time element wrapper by default, which some may find useful.
