Block causes icons to appear twice

I have ShareThis configured to show in a block, and assigned that block to the Content region.
I also have a few node types selected on the config page, including the one I am testing. However, the icons are appearing at the top of the node (under the title) even when the block itself is configured to not show on any pages. When I selected "Node content" or Links area" the icons show at the bottom. I do not have special code calling the ShareThis module, and I have tried with 7.x-2.5 as well as the latest from Git. For whatever reason, when I use the block location in ShareThis config, it winds up showing the icons twice - even if I assign the ShareThis block to some random other region (i.e. not the "Content" region).

For now I am going back to having them just show in the Links area, though I had wanted to use the block approach in order to better control the placement. I also attempted using some TPL code to insert the ShareThis field but that didn't work - not really sure what code to use in the TPL anyway.
